I'm Alive!

I'm so sorry I haven't been able to email for the past few weeks! There is no internet in my new area, so we have to come down to the south half of the island if we want to email. That involved walking for three hours this morning through the ocean and over a few little islands to get to Moroni high school. So I'm using the Jenks' computer right now (thank you so much!!).

There is so much to say about my new area!! I have been writing the weekly emails down in a notebook so I can type them up later when I have more time. For now, just know that I am working in Nabeina and Kainaba, which are two little islands in north tarawa. We switch every other day, so we sleep in Nabeina and walk over to Kainaba. It's about a 45 minute walk in low tide and about an hours walk in high tide. It's pretty crazy. yes, I've been stranded on an uninhabited island for a night because of the tides. We also walked (swam??) home one night in water up to my eyes. The first few times were pretty scary (yes Carsten, there are sharks here), but it's not too bad now. We just pray every time before we start. WE also sing hymns as we wade. The life in Nabeina is crazy. We live in a bouia (boo yah). So we sleep on grass mats on a stick floor with no walls. Luckily we have a mosquito net. We have fish, rice, hot milo (kinda like hot chocolate), and crackers every day. Sometimes spam if we get lucky. The hardest part? No toilet. Or toilet paper. My first night there I was way sick and had to go to the bathroom about 20 times. IN the ocean. It was absolutely miserable. I'm all good now though.

Sorry I can't write more, I need to start heading back before dark. But I still pray for you all each night. Keep being awesome!! I love you all (I read all your emails but I don't have time to respond or send pics. Sorry!!) I LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!
